Odeon of Herod Atticus
·
The project “RESTORATION, CONSERVATION AND ENHANCEMENT OF
THE ODEON OF HEROD ATTICUS AND THE STOA OF EUMENES
AT THE SOUTH SLOPE OF THE ACROPOLIS" was included in
the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) in
September 2011.
·
The budget for the works for the period 2011-2015 amounts to
€ 850,000.
·
The works are carried out following the approved studies by
the Central Archaeological Council.
·
The works planned at the Herodium as included in the NSRF
are the following:
1.
Restoration of the eastern passage by placing three rows of
seats of new Pentelic marble, which in addition to
the monument’s morphological and structural
rehabilitation will also be of practical use during
the Athens Festival performances.
2.
Reinforcement and restoring of parts of the facades of the
Eastern and Western front wall of the auditorium
that are dilapidated. Their reinforcement will
include fillings with new aktitis stone from Piraeus
in the missing sections and the gaps resulting from
removals during older works, which were using
materials other than those used in the ancient
buildings.
3.
Reinforcement and restoring of three decayed arches on the
auditorium’s perimeter wall by filling the arches
and the respective parts of walls to restore
continuity and to ensure stability.
4.
Conservation of the ancient seats of the auditorium by
removing old mortar, surface cleaning and sealing of
cracks.
