Ancient Theater of Larissa

The project "Conservation, restoration and enhancement of
the ancient theater of Larissa" was included in the
National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) with a
€ 1,500,000 funding.
·
The NSRF 2007-2013 includes works aiming at the immediate
stabilization and restoration of the surface of the
marble and stone parts located in the area of the
main theater, the stage structure and the scattered
elements (at the stage structure and around the
orchestra).

At the same time, works will attain the aesthetic
restoration of the monument’s architectural parts in
order to have a better and more complete picture of
the whole of the monument itself.

The cleaning and preservation works in the theater have
already begun.
·
Additional works will be carried out for a better
predominance, comprehension and enhancement of the
monument.
·
The sum of € 1.5 million is available in the NSRF and its
use depends directly on the monument’s mapping and
restoration survey. The relevant study has already
been approved by the Scientific Committee and has
been submitted to the Central Archaeological Council
for final approval.
