OUR 'LET's GET STARTED' campaign

Ancient Theater of Thorikos
·
The project “Fortification, Restoration and Enhancement
of the Ancient Theatre of Thorikos" has been
implemented since 2007 (ex post follow and direct
labor) by the Directorate of Ancient Monuments
Restoration, funded by the Archaeological Resources
and Expropriations Fund (AREF) with € 500,000 euro
(decision ADMIN/B/6041/A/07.6.07.2007).
·
Under this program, the restoration of part of the western
and central tier of the theater has been completed.
·
These works are related to restorations, fillings and
renovations of seats, reinforcements of their
sub-base and limited fillings with new material
extracted from a nearby quarry.
·
Works will immediately begin to protect the retaining wall
of the orchestra, which shows deformations and
loosening of the structural material. This operation
involves the construction of micropiles to secure
the retaining wall from earthquakes and landslides
and its grouting in order to acquire strength in all
of its parts and not fail in case of slipping.
·
The remaining funds amounting to € 280,000 will be used to
complete the restoration of the lower part of the
theater’s auditorium and its retaining walls.
