TETI HADJINIKOLAOU

Teti Hadjinicolaou was born in Athens. She holds a degree in Byzantine and Neohellenic studies and a degree in History and Archaeology (University of Athens). Her postgraduate studies focused on Medieval and Modern History of Art (Rome University), Art and Civilization (Universite Libre de Bruxelles) and History (D.E.A., Universite Paris I-Pantheon Sorbonne). At present, she is completing a Ph.D. on the Attitudes towards Popular Culture in Greece (Universite Paris I-Pantheon Sorbonne).

She has worked at the Hellenic Ministry of Culture (1978-2011), in the sector of Modern Cultural Heritage, where she served as a Director (1997-2011). The preservation and rehabilitation of historic monuments, the protection of intangible and movable cultural heritage, the organization of historical and ethnographical museums and exhibitions and the intercultural dialogue constituted her main issues of study and practice.

She has been one of the founding members of the Hellenic National Committee of ICOM (1983). She held the presidency of the Hellenic National Committee during the following periods: 1995-1999, 2001-2007, 2009 -until today. In the framework of ICOM, she has undertaken the organization of many International Conferences, Seminars and Meetings on museology, museum education, documentation and other relevant topics.
She has coordinated European Programmes (“Schools adopt monuments”, 1995-1997, and “Museomed: Technical assistance in the field of museums”, 2000) and has also participated in other European projects (“MUCEM: Museum of Civilizations of Europe and the Mediterranean”, 2009 -until today).

Being fluent in French, Italian, German and English, she has participated with papers in several conferences and scientific meetings. Teti Hadjinicolaou has contributed in international and Greek bulletins, conference proceedings, articles and scientific publications concerning museum education, museum history and protection of cultural heritage. Finally, she is a member in various scientific associations, museum boards and councils.
